Guiding the generation next in these turbulent times of confused values is a great challenge. Our team – the management, the administration, the teachers and all other members of the staff accept the challenge and we will do our best to guide them in the right direction.

Our aim is to equip our children with the qualities needed to lead a successful life in society. In order to do so, we follow a curriculum, which meets the needs of all in a manner that stimulates, challenges, excites and encourages each student to question and enjoy the opportunities available to them.
At B.D. Memorial Jr. School, it is our constant endeavour to promote self-confidence and self-esteem in our children and to make them recognize the importance of human relationships based on understanding, tolerance and mutual respect.
Dr. Suman Sood
Director & PrincipalDr. Suman Sood is a distinguished educator with over 35 years of experience and currently serves as the Director & Principal of B.D. Memorial Jr. School, managing five branches across Kolkata. She also serves as an advisor to B.D.M. International and Indus Valley World School, both K-12 institutions under the same management. Additionally, she is a member of the advisory boards of other illustrious schools like MCKV, South City International School, and SPC Jain Futuristic Academy. Formerly Director of Mongrace Montessori group of schools, she has led schools to top rankings in national surveys by Education World, Education Today, Brainfeed, and Gurukul Awards. As the founder of the ECA Kolkata Chapter under Dr. Swati Popat Vats, she plays a vital role as ECA Core Committee Member, mentoring West Bengal and some other territories.
Mrs. Sood led Montessori schools in India to earn the British Council International School Award. She has co-authored History and Civics textbooks published by Pearson. A recipient of numerous accolades—including the Times National Award, Vidya Mandir Society Award, Civics Teacher Award, ECA Award, AKS Award, SHE Award, and the ICONIC 111M Jewel of Bengal Award—her work in technology integration and early education is widely recognized. Mrs. Sood has represented India in educational delegations to the UK, China, Hong Kong, and Dubai, and continues to foster global collaboration through exchange programs.
She actively supports the UN SDGs as Regional Ambassador of RiseUp4Peace, contributor to RiseUp4SDGs, and SPSC Ambassador. In 2024, she was awarded the SPSC Annual Appreciation Silver Medal for her contributions to education. She is a CII National Education Core Committee Member, E-Pal Ambassador, and works closely with organizations like IWN West Bengal, Green Legion, and Rotary, remaining committed to educational and societal transformation.

It is a continuous process, a harmonious and synchronized combination of skills, intellectual power and value system, preparing young minds to develop an in-depth understanding of fundamental subjects, current world events, intercultural dialogue and fluency in new technologies, thus enabling them to be worthy global citizens.
Toddler and Kindergarten years of children are filled with exploration of true potential. The brain of a child grows at a very fast pace during this time, which is why it becomes essential to lay a strong foundation in the formative years. Children in their early years need time to play and be physically active. They need to be provided with a constructive and holistic learning environment where their curiosity is fed not just by way of knowledge but positive experiences. Our main emphasis is on fostering the joy of learning, language enrichment and early communication. Child-centric pedagogy continues into primary years, emphasising inquiry and project-based learning.
It gives me a sense of pride to say that at B.D. Memorial Jr. School we do our best to craft an atmosphere where you can find the great Indian culture and tradition along with modern Indian achievements and ethos. The management strongly believes in partnership between students, parents, teachers and support staff, thus creating a positive environment to empower students in both local and global perspectives.
